It all started with a look. They were discussing “their men”, as they called them, nothing unusual. Kate was griping about how Sawyer was always such an ass and how Jack never thought about anything but survival. Sun was worrying over whether Jin would ever speak to her again. Kate placed a reassuring hand on her arm, they looked into each other’s eyes. That wasn’t the unusual part either. The sparks, that was new. Sun saw it in Kate’s eyes, the inviting openness that lies beneath her dark pupils.
She’d seen it before, but never under feminine eyelashes. Sun blinked, but it was still there. The most surprising thing was the surge of intensity that she felt inside her own chest and the warmth in her cheeks. Kate leaned forward slightly, her eyes grazing Sun’s lips as if to ask whether this was okay. She didn’t think to object. Kate’s lips brushed against her own, and all she could think of was how this should feel wrong. Then why didn’t it?
Kate’s hand rose to cup the side of Sun’s face as the kiss grew more intense, her sweaty palm warm against her skin. She shuttered against her as Kate’s hand slid down to her waist, her fingers pressing into her hip. Her fingers tangle themselves in Kate’s curls, brushing the nape of her neck softly.
As they break contact they can both feel their lips vibrate from the energy flowing between them in waves, like a lightning bolt of chemistry zigzagging from one to the other. Kate’s hand leaves her waist and travels down to Sun’s thigh as her eyes study her reaction. She stares right back, entranced by what just happened and how she hadn’t felt that heat in so long. Just the edges of Kate’s mouth turn up, glad she felt the same way. They spent the rest of the night just leaning into one another, feeling the rise and fall of their breaths and keeping each other warm. That night, they didn’t need a blanket.
