Summary: AU, post-island. Kate has a selfish streak; this is it.
Sayid handles it calmly.
At least, he handles it calmly for a man who walks into a grocery store and finds out he has a three year old.
She hadn’t ever meant to tell him. She hadn’t even meant to see him.
Then again Kate hadn’t meant to sleep with him either.
She doesn’t give him the chance to start talking about taking responsibility for his actions and helping her in any way he can. It’s automatic for him, otherwise he wouldn’t be saying it. It would never work. If there’s anyone who could figure that out, anyone who thinks like her, then it would be him.
She’s still on the run. And he’s smart and he’s forgiving and he’s also never going with her. She wouldn’t want him to. This isn’t Jack and it isn’t Sawyer and it isn’t the same relationship she had with them. This was an ill-timed accident.
She loves her son, every mother loves their child, it’s innate and you can’t avoid it, but not enough for her to stick around so he can know his father. Not with her freedom on the line.

I love that.
And I have a thing for Kate/Sayid, not to mention that other thing I have for Kate & baby! This really worked for me. Very good job! :D

Date: 2007-11-29 09:26 pm (UTC)I'm glad you like Kate/Sayid, since I tend to write that. Kate and a baby...not so much, which is why this is darker and not fluffy like the prompt I got intended it to be.
I'm glad you like this! Thanks for reading!

Date: 2007-11-29 09:29 pm (UTC)This was the perfect Kate and baby fic for me, dark, and unhappy, and so much Kate. Have I mentiones how I love that she's still running in this? That is something so not common in Kate fics! I loved it!

This makes me sad, both for Kate and for the child, but I can certainly see it. Like you said in the summary, she has a selfish streak. A stubborn streak, too.
Anyway, thanks again for writing this. It might not have been a happy fic, but I definitely enjoyed reading it. :)
