Title: I Don't Want To Be Lonely No More
Fandom: Grey's Anatomy
Characters/Pairings: Callie, Cristina
Word Count: 580
Rating: PG-13
Summary: She sleeps at Meredith's and Callie sleeps at the apartment and that's worked fairly well. Or it has for her. Apparently that wasn't mutual.

Cristina doesn’t like living with other people. And yes, that could be considered a lie because she lived with Burke and she spends more time in Meredith’s house than in her own, even before Callie moved in, but she was with Burke and Meredith is her best friend. So it’s more of a half truth; they’re more exceptions to the rule than anything else.

Which means that this whole living with Callie thing shapes up not to be as fabulous as she once thought. She lives there, she pays rent, all her stuff is there, but she is physically not.

She doesn’t know Callie all that well, and that didn’t seem to matter at the time because they could fake it. They had common ground; they were angry, they were scorned. But that only goes so far when there’s not much else that they share.

So she sleeps at Meredith’s, and Callie sleeps at the apartment and that’s worked fairly well. Or it has for her.

That’s the other thing about Cristina. She’s not used to having to deal with other people’s emotions. She’s not used to having to care about their emotions.

That’s probably why on a Thursday night, ten minutes after she’s come home and is about to leave for Meredith’s house, only having dropped by for clothes for the next morning, it comes as a complete surprise when Callie stops her before she leaves.

“Where are you going?”

Cristina frowns, turning with furrowed brows. “Meredith’s. Why?”

“Do you always go there every night?”

“Most. Not every.”

Callie nods, and her eyes are red, like she’s either tired or been crying and Cristina really hopes it’s the first one because she isn’t the type who can deal with people crying. “Even when I wasn’t here?”

“Yes.” Callie gives her a look that clearly says she doesn’t buy it. “Just not as frequently.”

That the other woman seems to believe. And that should really be it, which is why she turns to leave again. She gets about as far as her hand on the doorknob before Callie cuts back in. “Could you not.”

This Cristina really doesn’t get. “Excuse me?”

“Not...go.” Cristina stops, looks at her closely, completely confused and not sure what to do. “I’m sorry, I know this is weird but I’ve had a really horrible day and the quiet is really starting to grate on me. So if you could just...stay here tonight.” Callie drops her eyes, like maybe she’s said too much, and really Cristina’s not sure if she has or hasn’t. That’s still up for debate. “I mean I completely understand you and Meredith have this...whatever, it’s not important, I just...get lonely.”

Lonely. Cristina thinks she can understand that feeling. She felt that way a lot after Burke left. That’s how she got in this routine of sleeping at Meredith’s in the first place. She didn’t like the way the room seemed to echo when she walked or talked or breathed. It had never bothered her before she met Burke; she hated that it bothered her after he’d left.

She doesn’t say anything to her request. She doesn’t really know what to say. But she does put her bag down on the couch and start trying to remember where she left the phone, hoping all the while that Callie will take that as a sign that yes, she’ll stay.

Cristina thinks, though she’s not sure of this, that she hears a mumbled “thank you”.

I liked this! Cristina and Callie are two of my favourite characters, and I think that now that they are together, the show should explore more their potential friendship. It's very interesting to see the way Cristina relates to people, I love her friendship with Meredith, and I think you've done a perfect job here, conveying that!

Loved it! :D

Yay! I wish they would show more with Cristina and Callie...they seem to be ignoring that storyline altogether which sucks cause I got my hopes up with them.

I love her friendship with Meredith as well, in fact I've been writing a lot of them lately.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!

love this tho i'm torn if i'd want this in the show as i love all the mer/cristina bits like with the dancing but then i do feel sorry for callie in the apartment all on her own,

What we need is mer, cristina and callie (my 3 fav female characters) then none of them will be lonely!

I love, love, love that dancing scene. But yeah, I'd still like to see more of Callie and Cristina's friendship on the show. I'm down with the three of them, sounds good to me.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

Oh, this was such a nice break from my work hell hole so thank you for that. I love your rendition of Callie and Cristina living together. This could very much be a scene from canon. Thanks!

We all need a little break sometimes ;)

I'm glad you thought this fit into canon. I try.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Oh, I love this! All of the other Callie/Cristina living together stories I've read have them as blissfully sarcastic new best friends...but I don't think it would be that way. I think they *could* be that way, but I don't feel like it would happen instantly. Callie is the lovably freaky-weird, bone crushing, former basement dweller who likes to rock out in the OR and in her underwear. Cristina is, well...she's the emotionally devoid, sarcastic, kick-ass surgeon who loves to cut people open. While they have that woman scorned thing in common, I think them living together would be awkward...at least until they gave themselves a chance to really get to know each other. I think you've captured that awkwardness perfectly here. Excellent job.

I wanted to write them as blissfully sarcastic best friends. But it wouldn't let me. For some reason the story wanted to be angsty and canon. I guess that's a good thing though.

But you are very, very right. It would be incredibly awkward. I ignored that once but it gets harder to do. They definitely need to bond (though Cristina isn't really a bonder, is she) before we get anything but that uncomfortable what-do-I-say kind of interaction. Because they really haven't interacted like at all up until very recently.

Thank you for taking the time out to leave such nice feedback! I really appreciate it!

Very good:) Although that last bit got me in the mood for a Burke-comes-back fic. I might ahve to break down and wonder to the ff.net section for Greys again. Or Tenblade or whatever that archive is called..

I intend to do the Burke comes back fic. It's on my to-do list right next to that story I owe you (the Izzie doesn't sleep with George thing that's on my hard drive half way finished). It's truly inevitable. Just saying ;)

But I'm really glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

Aww, pretty story. Especially this line: Lonely. Cristina thinks she can understand that feeling. She felt that way a lot after Burke left. Great use of the prompt!

Thanks for sharing :)
