He sleeps with Callie Torres and two weeks later word gets around the hospital that she’s into women now and Mark wouldn’t mind so much if it wasn’t for the fact that he’ll always be known as the guy who turned Callie into a lesbian. He should’ve left that title for O’Malley.

It doesn’t help that this is only adding to the fact that the nurse’s have all but completely shut him down. The days of sleeping with a new girl every week seem to be over – at least for the time being. Not forever.

“You’re better off this way,” Derek pushes the button on the elevator, this one not inhabited by every woman he’d slept with in the recent past.

“And just what is that supposed to mean?” He asks, hating the way Derek sounded so condescending. He wasn’t a perfect example himself.

Derek eyes him carefully, “You’re not twenty-five anymore Mark. Do you really think you’re going to go through the rest of your life like this?”

His answer is instantaneous. “Yes.”

Derek just shakes his head and steps off the elevator, down the hallway with Mark on his heels.

“What’s wrong with having a little fun?” Mark continues and he kind of knows the answer already but he’s more concerned with whether Derek’s going to actually give it to him or not. And now he’s going to say it without sounding sixty.

Derek knows this because he gives Mark a look, the one that says he’s on to him and he doesn’t care what Mark thinks. “Because you’re going to end up old and alone, reliving your glory days and I do not want to be around for that.”

“Then why aren’t you still with Meredith?”

He starts walking again. Predictable. “Meredith…we’re just not going to work out.”

“See. You’re dating Rose. Playing the field. How is that different?” At this point he has absolutely no idea where they’re going. He’s forgone heading to where he’s supposed to be in order to finish this.

“Because I’m dating her.” Derek says, as if to a small child. “I’m not sleeping with her just to sleep with her. Like you do.”

“I…” he knows he’s losing ground, however he will argue this until he’s blue in the face, “don’t just sleep around. I have had a long term relationship.”

Derek nearly laughs. “Define long term.”

“Three months.”

“I was married for eleven years.” Like he’s forgotten. “Small beans.”

Mark doesn’t mention that they happen to have been talking about the same woman. There’s no point in souring this conversation. “You also got divorced.”

Some things can’t be avoided, Mark realizes too late. “I don’t take to infidelity too well.”

“You slept with Meredith while you two were together.” He points out.

“Our marriage was over at that point. Long before that. We both knew it.” Mark highly doubts that. “Are you really still trying to prove you’re right?”

“Yes.” Of course he is. He isn’t going to just give up.

“Tragic.” Derek shakes his head, grabs a chart off the nurse’s station and tells him, as he walks into his patient’s room, “One of these days you’ll understand what I’m saying.”

And that’s fine, Mark doesn’t mind coming to grips with that. In ten or fifteen years. Not now. Now is too soon.

Of course now might also be his only option but he prefers not to think in those terms.

The episode I am watching right now has the brain guy who dies because Alex mixes up the dosage. And its funny because Izzie is commenting on how she and Alex had technical difficulities and George comments that no matter how much she begs, he will not have sex with her.

heh. Some things are funnier having seen later episodes.

Isn't that like...10 or something? Or 8? I can't remember.

Oh, the irony of how much he lied.

Might have been. I started laughing and thinking, boy your going to regret saying that down the line.

I made it up to the train wreck at least in my re-watching. Or was Denny afterwards...yeah, I think so because the episode had Bailey pregnant and we didn't know that at the train.
