Title: Stranded
Fandom: Lost
Characters/Pairings: Hurley, Charlie
Word Count: 384
Rating: PG
Prompt: gottalovev wanted vacation fics at lostsquee
Author's Note: Totally AU, but it was what I thought of. Besides, I know everyone else will be fulfilling your Jack/Sawyer needs ;)
Summary: AU. It's a bad buddy comedy is what it is.

It’s a bad buddy comedy is what it is.

“I think there’s something wrong with the engine.” And Hurley’s shouting over the radio, which must be turned up to about a billion decibels because Charlie insists that it will attract people which would be good since they’re currently stranded on a stretch of road with very little traffic apparently. They’ve been here ten minutes and they have yet to see a single car pass by. “Hit the gas.”

Charlie does. They get thick plumes of smoke for his trouble. “That’s not good right? It doesn’t look good.”

“No dude, it’s not.”

“I thought you said you knew how to fix cars.” Apparently Charlie gets tired of screaming over the radio because he steps out of the car and finds Hurley from his position in front of the open hood of the car.

“Yeah, when I was ten and helping my dad restore the Camaro.” He was a kid; this doesn’t make him an expert. “We should just call a tow truck.”

Charlie produces a cell phone from his pocket, waving it at Hurley, and he dimly remembers telling Charlie the same thing five minutes ago.  “No reception, remember.”

Which means they are indeed stuck here, until they can find someone else with a car or, you know, a better cell phone plan. “I knew this wouldn’t work. I’m cursed; it’s not the numbers, it’s me.”

“Oh great, you with the crazy talk again, that’ll help. Definitely.” He narrows his eyes, which prompts a too quick, “Sorry. But it’s not like we’re exactly on a schedule here; it’s a vacation.”

Right, a nice relaxing vacation. This is not the correct way to start one. Hurley steps back from the still steaming hood of the car, leaning against the side of the car facing the road, squinting against the sun to see as far up the road as he can, hoping in vain to see a car coming this way. Nothing but the road, trees, and blue sky.

“It’s not like we haven’t been stranded somewhere before,” Charlie says, offhandedly in a kind of childish way, retreating back to the car where, thankfully, the air-conditioner is still working perfectly fine, and it’s not funny but it kind of is.

It’s better to find the humor anyways.

Awwww, this was lovely! You got both of them spot on. I could totally see this happening. Hurley thinking it's the numbers and Charlie blasting the radio? Perfect. It was definitely funny and I loved the end. The idea of those two on a road trip is absolutely perfect I have to say ;) lovely indeed!

I've always had that idea in my head, I don't know if I got it from someone or what but the idea of them being stranded on a highway has always been in the back of my mind. This is just the first time I've ever thought to write it.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Yeah, this is the first time I've ever really written Charlie. At least alive. So, you know, that was a risky little chance you just took, lol.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Charlie calling Hurley on the crazy talk, I love it!!

I loved their friendship..and you know, it is kind of funny because no matter where they go, they get stranded somehow.

Really great use of the prompt!

Charlie would call him on it. And not in like a mean way, just...it's Charlie you know, sometimes he talks too much.

And I did love their friendship on the show and thus miss it now, so it was nice to revisit.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Yay, Charlie and Hurley on a road trip only to be thwarted by disaster and engine failure all over again. It crossed my mind that this was Hurley by himself with only ghost Charlie as a companion but then I wiped that thought from my mind. This was lots of fun.

No, that's why this is AU. I wouldn't do that to everyone, lol. I just wanted something lighthearted you know. That's what I felt like writing. Plus the parallel works well I think.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

This is bittersweet, because I can't help thinking Hurley is alone and that is just Charlie's ghost.
But I loved it, very original, and their bickering dialogue is just so them. :)

Definitely not what I intended but that seems to be a way to interpret it. In my head it's just very, very AU lol.

Heh. Very nice. I think you should right a prequel to this (but it doesn't have to be) in which Charlie gets off the island and finally figures out that Hurley was telling the truth all those times he said he was worth a gazillion dollars. Just saying. Good work!

It is better to find the humor, and these two always can do that, can't they? Loved this. The idea of Charlie and Hurley on a road trip fills me with glee.

Also, great opening line!

I would pay money to see those two on a road trip together. I think you'd get whiplash, trying to keep up with all the banter. I'm still giggling at Charlie's last line. ♥

These two would be hilarious on a road trip -- I'd kill to be a fly on the wall so to speak.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading and reviewing!
